This last weekend I photographed the beautiful Fleck family for their holiday photos! Couple cute outfits,  two of the prettiest/smiliest little girls I’ve ever seen, and a gorgeous location and you have a happy photographer! Here are just a few favorites of mine from their session :).

After hanging out with Kim and Daniel for their engagement session, I KNEW the wedding was going to be a blast! I pretty much started to miss them and look forward to their wedding the second we parted ways! Kim is just the sweetest person who is so easy to talk to and Daniel is HILARIOUS. One of his friends described him as just being a “big smiley face emoji” and they couldn’t have hit the nail on the head more. I don’t know what it is about Daniel, but anything and everything he says makes me smile and laugh. Both of them have hearts of gold!

Their wedding day took place on a warm September day and was so perfect for start to finish. The girls got ready in a huge getting ready room with 3 walls of just floor-to-cieling windows. You can bet I took advantage of all the glorious natural light and the fun concrete wall that was also there! After a lovely church ceremony, we headed to a nearby park and found the perfect micro-location that not only had shade (which was necessary for photos since it was so bright out), but the most gorgeous greens and diffused light coming through the trees. Add that to a gorgeous bridal party and a pretty color palette and I was in photographer heaven!

When I was first starting out in the photography world, I felt SO overwhelmed by the sheer number of different lenses. I was a biology major finishing up my last year of college and was on the fence between following a more traditional job route or pursuing my passion. I knew that I wanted to take my photography to the next level and be prepared for the first few solo weddings I had coming up. At the time, I had ONE lense and knew that it was time to invest in more gear so that I wouldn’t be held back and could deliver the best quality work possible! I remember thinking to myself, “Man, I wish someone could just list out what they use and have found to be tried and true for their gear!” as I scrolled down a website with a seemingly endless list of different lenses.

That was my inspiration for today’s post! I’m going to share my absolute favorite lenses that I use for every single engagement/family session and wedding I shoot and for what part of the day I use each of them for. Hopefully, it will be helpful in helping you decide what lenses to invest in and when to use them! View full post »

Cielo Farms Malibu Wedding

Alisa and Josh had the most magical wedding in the Malibu mountains at Cielo Farms! I couldn’t get over the views, lighting, and atmosphere of their venue and pretty much decided that Cielo is where I want to get married 😉. I felt transported to Italy the entire day!

One of my favorite memories from the day is riding in an intense Jurassic Park-looking golf cart as we made our way around their venue in search of the best spots for their bride and groom portraits. The terrain was no joke and it felt like we were on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland the entire time! I love being able to laugh and joke with my couples and am so happy to call Alisa and Josh friends now! It’s so crazy how my brides and grooms come into my life as total strangers and, by the end of their wedding experience, it’s like I’ve known them my entire life!

Lauren and Nick’s wedding day was perfection from start to finish!

The day of, I walked into her room at the Pasea Hotel in Huntington Beach and was met with a beautiful suite with tons of natural light and a group of the prettiest bridesmaids! Le Pique Beauty did a flawless job with hair and makeup and I squealed when I first saw Lauren because she already looked drop-dead gorgeous long before she was done getting her beauty on!

There were so many special moments before the wedding even started. Lauren and Nick exchanged love letters, she gave gifts to her parents and bridesmaids, and we took a few quiet moments to get stunning photos of her on the balcony connected to her room.

My favorite memory from the day is literally SPRINTING to and from the beach after we finished photos with their bridal party! We were racing the sun setting and it’s a good thing Lauren and Nick are both personal trainers, because running in the sand is a workout! We made it to the beach and caught some epic sunlight. The wind made for some amazing movement in photos, but also did a number on Lauren’s hair, so we RAN to wash her feet off at one of those beach showers before heading back to her hotel room for touchups. She accidentally pressed the wrong button and water came from the top of the shower and not at the bottom! She got a refreshing little beach shower, but was all smiles and good humor and we sped off to try to fix her hair and makeup before their grand entrance. I remember laughing so hard as we ran barefoot down the soft carpet towards their room at the end of the hallway and scampering to plug in a hair curler and find some makeup for her to apply.

It’s the messy, real-life moments that make your day so special. I am so grateful for amazing brides like Lauren who are filled with positivity and joy. What most people don’t realize before their wedding day is that YOU control your experience. Unexpected things are always going to happen in life (including your wedding day!) and the only control you have is how you choose to handle them. Make the decision to always choose courage, humor, and grace.

Your wedding day is what you make of it and I can tell you straight up that Lauren and Nick had one of the best days of their lives that day. It was truly magical.

Enjoy some favorites of mine from the day!
